High-bay warehouse for sugar packets
At Südzucker, Offenau, Krones has provided space for 15,900 pallet slots in the new high-bay warehouse APW-System C, which is 90 metres long, 28 metres wide and 29 metres high. Storage capacity for sugar packets on europallets or half pallets without carrier pallets was created in 5 lanes and on 17 levels. Products from affiliated companies can be integrated in the warehouse operation through a separate infeed unit for trading goods. The pallet infeed unit is arranged over two levels and can store 55 pallets per hour from production and 25 pallets with trading goods per hour, or retrieve 170 pallets per hour. A by-pass retrieval function for dispatching the pallets through the reversible storage section for the trading goods safeguards the retrieval process in the event of malfunctions.
For optimal space utilisation, the high-bay warehouse was equipped with locations for different pallet heights: The load heights of the different shelf levels are 1,450 mm, 1,680 mm and 1,800 mm, including the pallet. So the company does not waste space if pallets with lower load heights are stored. The shelf operating systems are provided with double-depth forks for full utilisation of the double-depth storage locations. Each shelf operating system is equipped with a stationary controller that is directly connected to the higher level warehouse management system without intermediate data concentrator. This enables each single warehouse lane to be operated independently of the other lanes – a decisive advantage in terms continuous operational dependability in the event of a maintenance or malfunction situation.
