Modularised labelling technology for special bottle shapes

Les Grands Chais de France (LGCdF), France’s biggest wine exporter, also produces high-quality spirit. Distilled in France, the Boris Yeltsin Vodka is dressed on a Topmodule labeller.
It’s no simple matter to apply this upmarket dress, since the 0.5-l, 0.7-l and 1-litre Boris Yeltsin bottles are not straight, they’re oval, and have a prominent foot. All Yeltsin bottles have to be precisely oriented for labelling, which is done using camera detection and individually controllable servo-type rotary tables. The integrated base shape of the Yeltsin bottle ensures high stability. In addition, Les Grands Chais de France has equipped the APS 3 pressure-sensitive labelling stations with an automatic reel-splicing unit.
The Yeltsin bottles are dressed in a cold-glue neck-ring label and a pressure-sensitive shoulder label in the no-label look. This is a very long label, particularly for the 1-litre bottle, and requires very accurate positioning. Affixing the extra-long label without any bubbles is a challenging task, one that’s been solved to the client’s satisfaction. “The positioning is no longer any problem at all, and the labels are neatly applied to the bottle.” As an option, the side of the bottle receives another pressure-sensitive label in the no-label look plus a tax strip applied by a Taxomatic module. In all, this means a cold-glue station, two APS 3 pressure-sensitive labelling stations and the Taxomatic module are BLOC-synchronised with the basic machine. Besides the Yeltsin Vodka family, the labeller also dresses other spirits, like whiskey, clear fruit schnapps, tequila o r brandy. The special-shaped brandy bottle, for instance, gets a neck band, two pressure-sensitive labels on the front, and one at the rear. Another pressure-sensitive station is docked onto the basic machine for this purpose.
