Modern filling technology with maximum precision

Targeting further diversification of their product range, Brazil´s largest wine producer, Vinicola Campo Largo S/A, commissioned a new Krones filler BLOC rated at 14,000 bph in April 2005. The rinser-filler-closer-labeller BLOC configuration makes for fast and accurate filling, even if the product exhibits severe foaming.
Campo Largo had already bought a Krones BLOC rated at 20,000 bph back in 1999, but this was solely for still wines with a vacuum filler. The BLOC includes a mechanical Variojet single-channel rinser, a Mecafill VKPV-CF counterpressure filler with automatic fill level correction, a SV screw-capper (preparations incorporated for a closer handling natural corks), a Universella labeller, plus a Garantomat and a Checkmat FE-G inspector.
The Mecafill VKPV-CF filler is designed for products exhibiting severe foaming, where an ultra-accurate fill level is absolutely essential. The double lift cylinder used for control purposes permits separate opening and closing of gas needle and valve stem, thus enabling the filling function to be performed without any pressure at all. An additionally integrated correction valve serves to pass pure CO2 into the bottle neck once the filling operation has been completed, thus forcing the excess liquid (intentionally filled!) back into the ring bowl through the vent tube, which produces the advantageous side-effect of a bottle neck completely devoid of oxygen.
 The filler’s front table provides space for an additional closer. The table wines of the “Vinho Do Avô” brand, plus the quality wines, have so far been closed with a natural cork, “Campo Largo” returnable bottles with a crown, though this will be changed to a screw-cap. The latter is already being used for the non-returnable bottles.
