High-performance labelling technology for foods and beverages

Labelling technology for foods like tomato and readymade-sauce products has to meet very stringent performance requirements, to be flexible for handling different dress variants, and position all the labels concerned with maximised precision.

At Sapore del Sole, owned by the Italian Feger Group, it was precisely these criteria that tipped the scales in favour of a Krones labeller. Feger is one of the market leaders when it comes to producing cans of tomato-based products, pickled pulses, fruit salad and peaches.

For applying attractive dress to its cans and jars, the group is now for the first time using labelling technology from Krones: a Starmodul labeller with a Contiroll film station for glass-container labelling and a Canmatic station, plus a Canmatic-Combi for in-house can labelling. Both of them are backed up by a Checkmat E label position monitor.

The basic principle behind the modularised labeller is flexible change-over of the labelling stations, to suit the particular task involved. This means the stations required in each case are simply linked up to the main machine and electronically coupled to the basic machine’s main drive. Besides the flexibility provided for changing over to a different labelling process, the modularised machine also scores highly in terms of a space-saving footprint, quite a major consideration for existing plants. This means food and beverage producers can also individualise their planning for dress variants or special editions, and run them on their modularised labeller.
The modularised labellers are available in different sizes for all output ranges, and can be fitted with stations for precut or wrap-around stack- or reel-fed labels, and for pressure-sensitive types as well.
