Energy utilisation in the brewery improve still further
Energy savings in the brewing process – with EquiTherm, consumption of primary energy in the brewhouse can be reduced by more than 20 %. The major focus of the new EquiTherm energy recovery concept is on the ShakesBeer mash kettle, which now utilises hot water at 95°C from the wort cooler for the mashing process. The heating technology in the ShakesBeer, with its dimple jackets, ensures efficient energy transfer, since in the mashing process there is a lower temperature level compared to the wort boiling process. Using this method, the mashing process can be run in the brewery entirely without any input of primary energy at all.
Advantages of the EquiTherm energy recirculation system
- Optimum utilisation of the surplus hot and warm water available from the wort boiling process
- Even utilisation of the boiler’s capacity, without any load peaks
- A smaller boiler and cooling systems can be used
- Savings in electrical and thermal energy
EquiTherm immediately produces quantifiable energy savings: the calculations for a 200,000-hecolitre brewery show that more than 250,000 kilowatt-hours of thermal energy can be saved each year. In an initial project at the Löbau Brewery, this figure has already been exceeded: with the EquiTherm energy recirculation system between the wort cooler and the ShakesBeer mashing system, the brewery is achieving energy savings of around 30 %.
