You can certainly call it an investment based on trust – or to be more precise trust to the power of five. It was the gratifying performance of the block solutions from Krones that has prompted Varun Beverages Limited to order five new block systems.

Varun Beverages Limited (VBL) had already placed two orders for two Krones blow-moulder/filler blocks and one Kosme 3Bloc in the past, and installed its first ErgoBloc L in 2018. This wet-end technology proved persuasive, not least thanks to the block’s compact footprint. Therefore, VBL decided to order another five ErgoBloc L systems from Krones.

    Project: Expanding filling capacities
    Client: Varun Beverages Limited
Locations: India; to be more precise one facility in Begu Sarai (state of Bihar), two plants in Sandila (Uttar Pradesh state) and two in Rajasthan state
Commissioning: End of 2021 and mid-2022
    Scope:

Five ErgoBloc L systems, each rated at 48,000 PET containers per hour (based on the 600-millilitre bottle)

Each wet-end block comprises a Contiform 3 Pro blow-moulder, an Ergomodul labeller, and a Modulfill VFS.

    Special features:

The crucial factors tipping the balance in favour of Krones were high efficiency levels, good machine availability in the blocks and short change-over times, which are particularly important given the large number of different formats being handled. The customer intends to run PepsiCo’s complete range of drinks on each of the five new lines, which means up to twelve formats from 250 millilitres to 2.25 litres, depending on the facility involved.

    India’s largest PepsiCo licensee

VBL is PepsiCo’s largest licensee for India. The beverage company runs more than 30 production facilities in this country, and another six in Nepal, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Zambia and Zimbabwe. VBL is part of the Indian RJ Group, which is operating in the beverage industry, the fast-food-restaurant sector and the healthcare-products market.

By taking over Indian filling plants that had previously been run by PepsiCo itself, VBL has steadily expanded its activities over the past few years and now handles almost all of PepsiCo’s franchise business in India.
