Fully committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals
Krones became a member of UN Global Compact Netzwerk Germany e.V. in October.
The United Nations (UN) Global Compact is the world’s largest and most significant initiative for sustainable and socially responsible governance. The Krones Group has been among its 1,100+ members from business, civil society, academia and politics since 2012.
In joining the UN Global Compact more than ten years ago, we made a commitment to:
Some 70 local networks have been established worldwide with the aim of promoting the objectives of the UN Global Compact in practice. The German signatories to the UN Global Compact come together in one of the first and largest of these networks. Initially formed in the year 2000, the network established the non-profit association UN Global Compact Netzwerk Deutschland e. V. to give it a more secure institutional foundation going forward.
For Krones, it was clear from the very beginning that we would like to actively contribute to this organization. And so, we were more than pleased when our application for membership was approved. Peter Steger, Head of Corporate Sustainability, puts it in a nutshell: “Membership was very important to us as it further formalizes our commitment to increased sustainability and to the ten principles.”
What are the SDGs?
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were defined by the United Nations in 2015. Divided into 17 policy objectives, they provide a comprehensive conceptual framework for ensuring a sustainable future for global society. Because of their far-reaching implications, the German federal government also refers to them as the Contract for the future of the global community for the 21st century. As part of the UN’s Agenda 2030, the SDGs are universally applicable to all member states.
And what does Krones have to do with all that?
The details of what Krones is doing to promote the SDGs can be found in our sustainability reporting.
